Protect your Miami business from AI deepfake fraud targeting executives, employees, and customers. Detection methods and verification procedures.

AI deepfake technology — synthetic audio, video, and images indistinguishable from authentic content — has moved from a curiosity to an active business threat. Miami businesses are encountering deepfake fraud in several forms: executive voice cloning used to authorize fraudulent wire transfers, fake video calls impersonating executives or clients, and AI-generated identity documents used in account takeover fraud. Defending against deepfakes requires a combination of technical detection and procedural verification.

How Deepfake Fraud Attacks Businesses

The most common deepfake attacks targeting Miami businesses include: CEO fraud via voice cloning (an attacker clones an executive's voice from publicly available audio — earnings calls, conference presentations, YouTube interviews — and calls finance or HR employees to request urgent action); video call impersonation (increasingly sophisticated deepfake video enables real-time impersonation during video calls); synthetic identity fraud (AI-generated or modified identity documents used to open accounts or defeat KYC checks); and AI-generated phishing content that mimics the writing style of known individuals.

Technical Detection Approaches

AI-powered deepfake detection tools analyze audio and video for artifacts that indicate synthetic generation: unnatural blinking patterns or facial movements; background anomalies; audio artifacts including unusual breathing patterns or voice quality inconsistencies; and metadata indicating recording software rather than a camera. While detection tools are improving, they're in an arms race with generation technology and should not be your primary defense — verification procedures are more reliable.

Verification Procedures That Work

The most effective deepfake defense is procedural: establish verification procedures for any request involving financial transactions, sensitive data, or significant system changes; require confirmation through a second communication channel (if the request came via phone, verify via email or text; if via email, verify via phone — ideally to a number you already have, not one provided in the suspicious communication); implement code words or challenge questions for executive impersonation scenarios; and never rely solely on a voice or face as verification for high-stakes requests.
